Our Story
We all know omega-3’s are good for us, but I and many of the people I talk to often forget to take our fish oil capsules regularly or can’t tolerate straight-up fish oil, and vegetarians have to rely on flax seed oil even though it is less efficient in providing the known benefits. My delicious dark-chocolate truffles are a fun, convenient, and healthy way for everybody to achieve the proven omega-3 benefits on heart, joint, and brain health.
-Dr. Dave Kiefer
Dr. David Kiefer is a board-certified family physician in Seattle. While focusing on integrative medicine during a two-year fellowship at the University of Arizona, he became determined to find a more appetizing way to deliver the medical benefits of omega-3 fatty acids.
Dr. Dave’s Mega-O™ truffles are the result of his efforts to provide people an irresistible alternative source of omega-3’s. Each truffle has a day’s worth of omega-3’s within rich, pure chocolate, making these truffles the perfect guilt-free indulgence.
Initially, Dr. Dave worked with chocolatiers in Seattle, Washington, and Madison, Wisconsin, to develop recipes weaving dark chocolate and omega-3 oils together. Today he works with several artisan chocolatiers across the United States - some which make the chocolates round and some which shape them like a rectangle - both to get you the freshest product possible and to lower the chocolate’s carbon footprint by being as close to the recipient as possible.
Dr. Dave’s Mega-O™ Original Truffles, launched in November, 2007, use fish oil with a hint of orange infused into the truffle ganache. Dr. Dave next turned to the fact that omega-3 options for some vegetarians had been limited to plant-based oils (i.e. flax seed), only about 5% as effective as fish oil. Dr. Dave’s Mega-O™ Vegetarian Truffles, launced in July, 2008, use organic algae oil (life’s DHA), directly providing the omega-3 fatty acid DHA.
Dr. Dave’s Omega-3 Foods LLC will be donating a percentage of its profits to groups involved with marine conservation, biodiversity, and overall environmental protection, hoping to give back in some way to the natural world that provides the raw materials for this endeavor.
